Welcome to Soundings – exploring
the richly varied and vibrant world of contemporary music
with a series of events. Soundings is a unique and groundbreaking
enterprise organised by the Austrian
Cultural Forum London that brings together composers, performers, students, administrators
and scholars from Austria and the UK in a series of events
in London.
Concerts, workshops and educational
events will explore
many facets of contemporary music. In May, six young composers
are being profiled with performances given by the New Ensemble
from the Royal Northern College of Music, together with
outstanding young artists including Isabel Ettenauer, Lore
Lixenberg, Richard Harwood, the Aurora Ensemble and the
Choir of St.Paul’s, Knightsbridge. David Horne, one
of our featured composers, will also be performing as pianist
in several events.
The next part of the series will take place in November
and will have a wider European focus. Events will include
concerts given by Klangforum Wien and Chamber Domaine,
a film composition project and a symposium exploring the
issues and challenges facing contemporary music in the
21st century.
Many aspects of today’s music will be
explored through this interaction between leading Austrian
and British musicians
in what promises to be a series of illuminating events.
We look forward to sharing them with you.
