This admirable undertaking promotes the exchanges between young composers from the two countries, and Ireland, too.

Soundings, initiated in 2004 by the Austrian Cultural Forum London, presents and profiles young composers and performers from Austria and the United Kingdom in workshops, symposia and concerts. It provides composers and musicians with a unique opportunity to get to know each other and each other’s work. Each and every year has inspired and created many exciting artist collaborations, projects and commissions many of which are ongoing.
Soundings takes place twice a year in London, a week in May at the Austrian Cultural Forum London and again in a major London concert venue in the Autumn.
It offers a rare opportunity to meet some of today’s leading composers from Austria and the UK, watch them at work and hear their latest compositions - many receiving their UK premiere - performed by some of the finest young musicians.
Soundings allows an in-depth examination into the latest trends in contemporary music. It contrasts the current stylistic developments in Austria and the UK and is a “must” for all those interested in new music and performance.
With multiple premières, collaborations and broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and profiles on Austrian ORF television, Soundings has travelled in concert already to Vienna and Venice with forthcoming performances in Venice, Bayreuth (Germany) and Oslip Mühle (Austria)
The Austrian Cultural Forum
